Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) is a surgical procedure used to treat cranial cruciate
ligament (CCL) injuries in dogs. The surgery involves cutting and rotating the tibial plateau, the
top part of the tibia bone, to change its angle. This adjustment stabilizes the knee joint by
eliminating the need for the damaged ligament to prevent the tibia from sliding forward.
During the procedure, Dr. Djordjevich secures the rotated tibial plateau with a metal plate and
screws, allowing the bone to heal in its new position. This realignment helps maintain joint
stability and reduces the likelihood of arthritis developing.
